Outline of event

Following consultation with many of the top GBR Epeeists, it was decided that there was sufficient interest for the Elite Epee Senior Events to commence. In the first year 2010 we will be running only a mens event, with plans (venues etc permitting) to run ladies event in future years. The events will be jointly run by the usual Elite Epee Events team with David Baker arranging referees and the organisation on the day.

The events are being supported by Allstar/Uhlmann UK, BladesBrand UK and Redhill & Reigate Epee Club who will all be helping with the kitting out of the event.

Thanks also to, Sunglasses Company, Fabris Lane (www.fabrislane.co.uk) who are kindly contributing a pair of sunglasses as prizes for each of the finalists (top 8) at the event.

Format

It will be run on a World Cup Basis with a slight adaptation.
Overall entry limited to 93 entries
Top 16 seeds receive bye direct to L64, with later check-in time (bye must be taken - no opt out).
After 1st round (11 poules of 7) top 32 receive byes to L64 (17th to 48th spots), next 32 fight off for 49 to 64th spots on L64 tableaux, 13 eliminated,
Top 16 seeds join event and direct elimination to the winner.

TimeTable

The event will run from the Last 64 to the final as speedily as possible and will run from L64 to L8 as quarters. If the event gets ahead of schedule we will finish early and will not put in extra breaks just for the sake of it.

Venue

We have been able to secure the use of the City of London Freeman's School Sports Centre, in Ashtead Park (Nr Leatherhead), Surrey, KT21 1ET for the event (map at www.clfs.surrey.sch.uk/contact/find_us.html). This venue has used for the Elite Epee Junior series for the last two seasons as well as the Under 12 National Championships in 2006 and we are very fortunate to have the use of this venue for the series. Just a few minutes drive from Junction 9 of the M25 it is a convenient venue for the motorway network and has more than enough parking and a suitable space for the event. The venue has space for 11 pistes. Please note that the school has a strict no smoking and no dogs policy, so please do not bring dogs or smoke on the grounds.

Equipment regulations

All kit must conform to the British Fencing regulations (see www.britishfencing.com).350N breeches and 800 Newton plastrons are required. Weapons will be tested at the event from the first round for weight and travel and cards will be given for failures (and if spare weapons/bodywires are not with you by the piste). All fencers should ensure that the equipment they are wearing fits correctly, with suitable overlap, especially between jackets & breeches. Referees will be specifically requested to ensure this is the case.

Special Rules for this event

'Double spooling' will be used up in the first round of this event. As such fencers must be attached to the spare spool and ready to get on the piste immediately after the previous fight finishes. Referees will be asked to Yellow card repeat offenders who are delaying the poule. Poule fight orders will be posted at the end of the piste so there is no excuse for not being ready. This technique will save over 30 minutes on a poule of 7 and is required to give us all the later start time.

Entry Priorities

All niff fencers (top 50 as of 01/03/2010) are guarenteed entry as long as their entry is received by closing date. All other entries are allocated on a first come basis (on entry received date). Please note if you leave it to the last minute and you are not in the top 50 you are likely to miss out. We will have reserves so if you realise after entering that you can not attend the event (even the day before), please inform me so I can give your place to another fencer.

Finance

The events are planned to run on a non-profit basis with any excess funds being included in a prize fund for the top 8 in the event. If there are full entry numbers this is planned to amount to a £150 prize to the winner reducing to £20 to the 5th to 8th place. Referees, helpers etc will be offered a small payment for their time taken in attending.

To attract the highest niff possible to the event, all 6 niff ranked fencers as of the 01/03/10 rankings will have their entry fee cheques returned if they compete at the event.

Refreshments

As yet we have not been able to organise anyone to run refreshments, all entrants however will be emailed details including whether a full refreshments service will be available nearer the time and it will also be posted here.
